A Wirral mum has today slammed the justice system after the case of two teenagers accused of setting fire to her home was discontinued. The mum and her daughter were asleep when the blaze broke out. The fire was treated as deliberate and the next door neighbours were later charged with arson with intent to endanger life. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the case was dropped due to a lack of evidence.
Crews managed to pull the daughter to safety through a first floor window. The mum however, who was six months pregnant at the time had to wait in the smoke filled house until the fire had been extinguished. Both were taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. The Crown Prosecution Service said it had taken the decision to halt the case because there was no "realistic prospect of conviction." News story sourced by Liverpool Echo.
